Minister of Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil announced on Saturday that over 1,400 colleges in the state are ready to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
‘From this new academic session, 1,270 post graduate institutes, 87 autonomous colleges of arts and commerce and 50 polytechnic and engineering colleges, are going to implement the National Education Policy 2020,’ Patil said.
‘On Friday, Patil concluded a two-day workshop in Mumbai which was attended by pro Vice Chancellors and deans of all universities and 87 autonomous colleges of Maharashtra,’ he said.
Patil was speaking at the inauguration of a two-day national conference on ‘Foundational Literacy and Numeracy’ at Savitribai Phule Pune University. The conference, which was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi, is part of the run-up to the fourth G20 Education Working Group Meeting, which will commence in Pune on Monday.
‘The Indian government is determined to assist state governments in every way for the ground-level implementation of NEP 2020 and further improve the quality of education imparted to children,’ said Annapurna Devi. ‘We can be a developed nation only when we make progress in education,’ she said.
‘We have to build a career for students because the education system does not provide jobs to everybody and that is why vocational training is included in the NEP 2020,’ said state minister for school education Deepak Kesarkar.
Focusing on the theme of multilingualism, Kesarkar also called for education in one’s native language.
‘Countries which educate in their ‘mother’ language have contributed greatly in the progress of mankind,’ he said stating examples of countries such as Russia and Germany.
Elaborating on the theme of the conference, School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar said that ‘foundational literacy and numeracy is an integral component of NEP 2020.’
